Inspirational Man – Stephen Murray
Hey guys. This is something I wanted to write about for a while. This is not your usual news blog or tutorial. I am going to tell you about Stephen Murray, he is an incredible man and should be an inspiration to us all. Just read the article below and let me know what you think.
A song dedicated to Murray
Stephen Murray is a former BMX dirt rider from Newcastle. Stephen was a BMX racer when he first started off bout left to the US to chance the dream of becoming a professional BMX rider after hanging in the US for a while he took the career change to become a BMX dirt rider. This was a great choice as he worked and rose to be one of the best and well known dirt riders in the industry.
As with every professional action sport athlete Murray was well known for his array of back flip tricks such as double back flips, 360 back flips, and turndown back flips. So be it one of the tricks he was known for to be the cause of a horrific crash which left him with injuries to his spinal cord an vertebrate. This happened on the 22nd June 2007 at the Dew Action Sports Tour in Baltimore.
Murray woke up in hospital surrounded by his family and friends hooked up to drips and all sorts of different monitors with foam in his mouth not being able to move any part of his body. After being told that he will never be able to walk again Murray and his friends and family has started a campaign called 'Stay Strong'.
Since the accident Murray's wife has left him and after a long custody battle Murray managed to keep his children and raises them at his new house in Riverside, California. Murray has been working with the doctor who gained world wide recognition for working with the quadrapledic actor Christopher Reeve and there has since been reports on Murrays progress as he is not able to move his thumbs, fingers and shrug his shoulders.
Murray believes that with the right mental attitude he will overcome this terrible injury and against all odds walk. Murray is still a big backer of BMX and has had some trials built in his back garden for his son to practice on and maybe one day be as good as Murray.
Since the accident Murray has been campaigning for better standards of health care in the US for action sport athletes as it is hard to find a company who will insure them due to the job they have. It has also been rumored Murray contacted Red Bull who own the footage to his crash to see the crash which paralyzed him as he wanted to see what went wrong. Murray's career was depending on the outcome of this run as he has said his sponsor was thinking about dropping him due to him not winning any competitions recently.
The competition he crashed in carried on with Ryan Nyquist eventually taken 1st place, however all the riders pulled together and donated the money to Murrays'Stay Strong' fund.
